Hyderabad: To the delight of many citizens, Hyderabad’s famous Sunday Funday festivities will be back on Tank Bund from next weekend, August 14, onwards announced KT Rama Rao on Twitter, on Friday. The festivities were stopped after December 2021 amid the spread of Omicron variant of Coronavirus.
The Telangana IT minister announced the come back of the event in response to a question by a Twitter user during his #AskKTR session. KTR directed the suggestion to Special Chief Secretary Urban development Arvind Kumar who replied saying that the events will commence from Sunday, August 14 onwards.
“We are re-starting #SundayFunday wef Aug 14. There will be a dazzling firecrackers show on the eve of #IndependenceDay2022 at Necklace road for people to watch from the #TankBund (sic),” he Tweeted.
The Sunday-Funday event was launched in August 2021 at the Tank Bund. Following suggestions from citizens, K.T. Rama Rao had directed the officials to make the stretch traffic-free during evening hours every Sunday for people to come and enjoy the evening on the banks of the lake with friends and family.
Ever since its inception on August 29, 2021, the event was a big hit. Large number of families started visiting the landmark and on the advice of the minister, activities like arts, crafts, and music were added to it later.
Moreover, a similar program was also launched at the historic Charminar named ‘Ek shaam Charminar ke naam’. The decision to start this event was taken upon request of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
