Hyderabad: With Covid-19 coming under control in the State, the Education Department has reportedly sent a proposal to the State government for the reopening of the schools from the second week of December.
According to official sources, the State School Education Department has held virtual meetings with the district and Mandal level Education Officers in this regard. Feedback from the school level on the ongoing online classes and the issue of physical reopening has also been obtained, said our sources.
Speaking to The Hans India, a senior official said parents were willing to send their wards to schools and students had been occasionally visiting to meet teachers at their respective schools for higher classes. Initially, there was some hesitation from both students and parents, even to come to school for meeting teachers, for clearing doubts, and to seek guidance suggestions related to their academic work.
However, this scenario has changed for the last one-and-a-half months. Following this, earlier it was thought of physical reopening of schools from December 7. However, they were asked to wait for some more time. “It could be that the CMO wanted to take feedback from the Health Department on the number of Covid-19 cases being reported from different parts of the State before taking a final decision on reopening of the schools,” the official added.
The authorities have also taken into consideration cases in States like the neighboring Andhra Pradesh where schools were already functioning in the higher education segment. In the beginning, there were some problems related to schoolchildren contracting with the Covid cases there.
But they were only isolated incidents reported only from two or three places. Since then, there were no issues reported in that State as well. Hence, the Education Department feels that schools from class VIII to Intermediate can be reopened from December 15.
The Education Department sources said it had proposed for the reopening of schools from Class VIII to Intermediate level. If everything goes smoothly, physical classes for lower classes can be reopened from January.
