The landscape of Indian defense is shifting, and its new capital might just be Hyderabad.
In a major milestone for the nation’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliance) initiative, Hyderabad-based defense technology firm Drogo Aerospace has officially delivered its first batch of 41 cutting-edge JK 250e drones to the Indian Army. Received by officials of the Army’s Southern Command in Nashik, Maharashtra, this delivery marks the first chapter of a massive ₹72-crore contract, with the remaining fleet scheduled to be deployed by August 2026.
But this isn’t just a story about a single delivery. It’s a story about rapid evolution, massive local job creation, and a city cementing its status as a global tech and defense powerhouse.
Engineering the Future of Surveillance
The JK 250e drones aren’t your average quadcopters. Developed and built entirely in-house by Drogo Aerospace, these advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS) are engineered specifically for grueling military missions, including long-range surveillance and reconnaissance.
Their standout feature? An impressive three-hour flight endurance on a single charge—a specification that gives tactical advantages to ground forces monitoring sensitive borders or navigating complex terrains.
Speaking on the launch, Founder and CEO Yeshwanth Bonthu emphasized that this successful deployment does more than just fulfill a contract: it validates the company’s technological expertise, robust manufacturing capabilities, and unyielding commitment to national security.
The Evolution: From Drogo Drones to Drogo Aerospace
If the name sounds familiar, it’s because the company recently underwent a massive strategic rebranding. Moving away from its original moniker, Drogo Drones, the transition to Drogo Aerospace signals a much grander vision.
Drogo is no longer just a drone-maker. It is evolving into a comprehensive aerospace technology ecosystem. Beyond tactical UAVs, the firm is actively pouring resources into developing:
-
Indigenous loitering munitions (suicide drones)
-
Long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles
-
AI-powered aerial intelligence platforms
-
Advanced next-gen satellite and aviation solutions
500 New Jobs and a Massive Footprint in Ranga Reddy
To keep up with its booming defense pipeline, Drogo Aerospace is drastically scaling its manufacturing footprint.
The Telangana government has stepped in to anchor this growth, allotting 4.5 acres of land within the high-tech Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Maheshwaram, Ranga Reddy district. Here, Drogo is constructing a state-of-the-art, 1 lakh sq ft manufacturing facility.
Currently, the company employs a dedicated team of 300 professionals. However, the upcoming mega-plant is expected to inject 500 additional high-skilled jobs into the local economy, offering a massive boost to Hyderabad’s aerospace engineering talent pool.

High-Profile Praise on the National Stage
Drogo’s rapid ascent hasn’t gone unnoticed by the highest echelons of government. At a recent defense industry exhibition in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, the company showcased its proprietary technologies to top leadership.
Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu personally reviewed the platforms. Both leaders highly commended Drogo’s contributions to strengthening India’s sovereign defense capabilities through indigenous innovation.
Looking Ahead
As Drogo Aerospace races to complete its remaining deliveries by August, the company is proving that Indian startups don’t just innovate—they execute at scale. For Hyderabad, a city already famous for its IT and pharma sectors, the skies above Maheshwaram are looking brighter, bolder, and distinctly high-tech. Drogo Aerospace isn’t just flying drones; they are lifting the entire region’s defense ecosystem to historic new heights.
