Our city, already famous for its rich history and world-class biryani, has quietly spent the last decade transforming into the digital backbone of modern India. Today, the Telangana government just dropped an announcement that takes things to an entirely new level: India’s very first dedicated Data Centre City is officially in the works.
Here is the inside scoop on how 1,500 acres in Chevella are about to power the future of the internet.
The Vision: 1,500 Acres of Pure Cloud Power
This isn’t just another tech park. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has greenlit a massive, hyper-focused ecosystem spanning 1,500 acres at Aloor village in Chevella.
The goal? Create a plug-and-play paradise for the world’s biggest tech titans. The IT and Industries Department has already locked down the land, and the state is rolling out the red carpet with guaranteed high-speed connectivity, immense power grids, and sustainable infrastructure.
Why Hyderabad? (As If We Didn’t Know!)
Let’s be honest: the global tech elite already loves Hyderabad. If you look around clusters like Chandanvelly, Fab City, and the upcoming Bharat Future City, we are already hosting the heavyweights:
-
The Giants: Amazon and Microsoft have already anchored massive operations here.
-
The Infrastructure Ecosystem: Industry leaders like CtrlS, CapitaLand, STT Global, NTT Data, Sify, and Tillman Global Holdings are scaling up by the day.
-
The Numbers: While we currently run a seamless 150 MW to 200 MW of operational data capacity, there is a staggering 5 GW (Gigawatts) pipeline on the horizon.
Our proximity to the international airport and rock-solid geological stability make Hyderabad the ultimate safe haven for the world’s data.
The Sustainability Twist: Smart Water & Power
Data centres are notorious resource hogs. They require massive amounts of electricity to run the servers and millions of gallons of water to keep them from overheating.
Instead of draining local resources, the government is introducing two incredibly smart, sustainable workarounds:
1. The Recycling Revolution 💧
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) currently treats a whopping 1,750 million litres of sewage daily across 41 plants. Through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the government plans to divert 530 million litres of this treated wastewater per day directly to cooling systems in Chandanvelly and Bharat Future City.
2. Open Access Power ⚡
To handle the heavy electric load, the state is looking into open access power, giving tech companies the flexibility to source their massive electricity requirements efficiently and cost-effectively.
What This Means for Hyderabadis
Beyond the corporate headlines, this is a massive win for the local ecosystem. A dedicated Data Centre City means a massive influx of high-tech jobs, massive real estate growth in the Chevella and surrounding corridors, and a solidified reputation for Hyderabad as the undisputed tech capital of India.
The internet of tomorrow is being built right in our backyard. Stay tuned to Hyderabad Stories as we watch this mega-project come to life!
