Hyderabad’s healthcare landscape is on the cusp of a major upgrade. The highly anticipated Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) in Sanathnagar is tentatively scheduled for its grand inauguration on June 11.
While the city initially hoped to celebrate the opening around Telangana Formation Day on June 2, the launch was rescheduled to accommodate Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s prior engagements. However, the extra days are only giving the facility more time to fine-tune its operations—and the sneak peek looks incredibly promising.
More Than a Hospital: A Hub for Tomorrow’s Specialists
Unlike traditional government hospitals, TIMS Sanathnagar is breaking the mold. It is being developed as a standalone postgraduate teaching and healthcare institution, meaning its primary focus is on producing specialized medical experts without an attached undergraduate college.
To support the next generation of medical minds, the government is wrapping up construction on a modern, 100-room hostel directly on campus for postgraduate students.
According to Telangana Director of Medical Education (DME) A. Narendar Kumar, nearly all major structural works are complete. The final touches currently being put in place are quite luxurious for a public institution, featuring premium patient rooms and international suites designed to offer top-tier comfort alongside world-class treatment.
Behind the Scenes: Inside the Trial Runs
The hospital hasn’t just been sitting empty waiting for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. In fact, TIMS Sanathnagar has been quietly functioning in a “soft-launch” trial mode since May 1 to ensure everything runs like clockwork on day one.
Nodal officer Mahboob Khan shared that the hospital is already bustling, witnessing an average daily footfall of:
-
80 outpatients per day
-
10 to 15 X-rays daily
-
Nearly 20 laboratory tests every day
“The trial run has allowed us to identify and smoothly address operational challenges before full-scale launch,” Khan noted.
Hospital administrators are paying microscopic attention to the details—including testing backup power systems to ensure uninterrupted air conditioning in critical diagnostic zones housing sensitive CT scan, MRI, and ultrasound units.
What to Expect on Inauguration Day
The official opening on June 11 is expected to be a major event, featuring a public meeting led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. In a major boost to the state’s healthcare workforce, the Chief Minister is expected to personally issue appointment and posting orders to the wave of doctors, nurses, and medical personnel who will call this facility home.
For the residents of Sanathnagar and the wider Hyderabad area, TIMS represents a massive leap forward in accessible, high-tech healthcare. Stay tuned to Hyderabad Stories as we bring you live updates from the launch!
